Who's your pick for the best performance of the Games? Is it Phelps for the incredible number of medals? Is it Bolt for his enjoyable antics on the track? Or is the whole argument apples-and-oranges?
Responding to an earlier comments posted who thought that the USA should go back to having only college students compete on our squads. Why should this country do it when the rest of the world uses professional athletes. This is not 1976! Get real!
Commenting on previous statement "he did them all in world record style"-Actually, he didn''t. In his 100fly, the one he won by 1 one hundreth of a secord, he got the olympic record, but Ian Corcker still holds the World Record
And you call yourself Phelpsgal.
The change of scoring made it more confusing than ever. Athletes who made major mistakes(landing on knees) ends up winning medals. Athletes who had clean programs lost. That I do not understand. Along with the countries who hae no clue on how to score are judging.
I think it''s exciting seeing the dawn of this new age. In one way after another China is eclipsing the U.S. Sports is just one among many fields of endeavour in which this has happened or is happening. The best bet for the U.S. future Olympic prospects is to encourage inclusion of sports in which we will always excel over China: NASCAR, ultimate fighting competitions, surfing (or, as its known in international circles ''water-boarding''), even professional eating is considered a legitimate sport by some. I think we can still compete in the gold medal count if we play our cards right.
I am SO embarrased at our runners! They are supposed to be competing in class-one style, showing poise and dignity and representing our country as such. Why do these gold chain- and sunglass- and press-on nail-wearing athletes need to show all of this flash? Isn''t it a slap in the face to the many other poverty-stricken countries they are competing against? Do they think they are better than those runners? It is a true embarrasment, and not befitting of any Olympic medal winner. Frankyl, I cannot belive it is even allowable.
