The suspense and speculation is over, as the 12 players expected to return the U.S. men to international basketball glory are known. LeBron James and Kobe Bryant highlight a stacked Olympic squad.

The first nine members of the 2008 U.S. Olympic women's basketball team were announced May 31, and the final three were named July 10. The squad is made up of WNBA players in the USA Basketball program. Team USA qualified for the Olympics by winning the 2007 FIBA Americas tournament in Chile.

The U.S. qualified the maximum of two men's and two women's beach volleyball teams. To be eligible for the Olympics, teams had to participate in at least eight FIVB official Olympic qualification tournaments held worldwide from Jan. 1, 2007 through July 20, 2008, and only their best eight results counted toward their Olympic ranking.

Following the final world cup in Augsburg, Germany, the men's whitewater team was named. The U.S. will send four boats to Beijing. On the flatwater side, one men's boat has been named, and others may be named in the coming weeks, pending invitation from the IOC.

Following Olympic Trials and world cup races, both the women's flatwater and whitewater teams have been named. The U.S. will send two boats to Beijing.

By finishing in the top five in team competition in all disciplines at the 2006 World Equestrian Games, the United States has secured a team berth in dressage, jumping and eventing. Trials for each discipline determine which horse/rider combinations will make the Olympic team, to be announced by July 15, 2008.

The U.S. Olympic judo team was decided at the Olympic Trials held June 13-14 in Las Vegas. Each nation can send a maximum of 14 judokas to the Olympics. The U.S. qualified 10 weight classes.

The U.S. team is comprised of 18 sailors, competing in all 11 classes at the 2008 regatta. The team was solidified following Olympic trials in October 2007. Hailing from all over the country, sailors range from age 20 to age 58.

The 2008 Olympic softball team is composed of 15 former collegiate stars, many of whom also have played in the National Pro Fastpitch League. In October 2007, USA Softball conducted a Olympic Team selection camp from which a pool of 18 players was named. The final roster cuts were announced on March 29. Of the 15 players, 10 have prior Olympic experience, led by outfielder Laura Berg, who has played on all three gold medal-winning teams.

One of the first sports in which the U.S. qualified for Beijing and formalized its Olympic roster was synchronized swimming. Berths in the duet and team events were secured at the 2007 Pan American Games. The ten young women on the team spend at least six hours a day in the pool.

The men's U.S. Olympic track and field team will comprise 57 athletes who qualified by finishing in the top three in their respective events at the U.S. Olympic Trials and by meeting a qualifying standard.

Based on their finish at the 2007 Worlds, the U.S. was the first reserve nation to the Olympic Games, but was awarded an entry when the IOC determined that no countries were eligible for a Tripartite invitation.

All six American spots in the Olympic triathlon have been determined, following the Hy-Vee Triathlon in Des Moines, Iowa on June 22. Sarah Haskins and Hunter Kemper were the final two Americans to qualify.

The U.S. Olympic wrestling team was decided at the Olympic Trials held June 13-15 in Las Vegas. Each nation can send a maximum of 18 wrestlers to the Olympics, one for each weight class: seven in men's freestyle, seven in Greco-Roman, and four in women's freestyle. However, the U.S. qualified only 16 weight classes, missing out at 60kg/132 lbs. in both men's freestyle and Greco-Roman.
